Poster Requirements and Guidelines

The following set of guidelines are designed to assist you in creating an effective poster. As a rule, posters should be self-contained and self-explanatory, allowing individuals to freely examine the poster and ask questions if they choose. An effective poster achieves a healthy balance between text and figures.

Requirements
  1. The space allotted for your poster will be 4' x 6' (four feet high by six feet wide).

  2. Stop at the registration table in the lobby of Alumni Hall to receive your poster location notice when you arrive to hang your poster (even if you've stopped there previously to pick up your general conference materials).

  3. Posters must be placed on the boards no later than 30 minutes prior to the start of your scheduled session. Plan to be present during the session to field questions about your work; however, you are welcome to display your poster for a longer portion of the day:

Guidelines
  1. Arrange materials in columns rather than rows for ease of reading.

  2. Prepare a title banner for the top of the poster, with characters at least 1" high.

  3. The text on your poster should be no smaller than 20-point type.

  4. If you are making a large, single-sheet poster:
    • avoid using high gloss or laminated paper, which can cause glare and inhibit viewing
    • effectively delineate each section within the poster
